Study Party Anyone? My Favorite Study Spots at IU

Hey everyone!

The start of classes is edging closer by the ticking clock.  Are you ready?  I know I'm not.  In the craze of moving from home to the dorm, welcome week, and getting along with your new roommate, don't forget about part of the reason you are here:  education!   Whether it is your first year in college or you're on your victory lap, the most important things to surpass your educational goals are great study habits and conducive environment to study.  There are a number of places I have found on campus to be the most conducive for my study habits. (if you want tips for fantastic study habits try these links Seven Ways to Be a Better Student and Five Quick Tips).  So without further ado, here are my top five favorite study spots around campus

5 -- Rolling in at number five is Starbucks at the Union.

I like coffee, I like tea, and I love the ambience of this place!  Do you have an awkward hour between two classes?  Is the IU Memorial Union on the way to your next class?  HAVE A SEAT!  Sit back and relax with your textbook and get some of that annoying studying out of your way for the day.  Studying daily is a great way to improve (or maintain) your subject knowledge.  Like sitting by the window? perfect.  Like sitting in the middle of a crowd? excellent.  Feel like being in a big comfy chair? fantastic!  This Starbucks has all those things.  Weekend studying--also try the Starbucks on Indiana :)

4--Drum roll please!!! Wells Library.

Sure, most people would put this one closer to #1, but personally it is a bit of a hike to get there for me, plus, the weight of all of my textbooks would create a killer back ache!  The few times I did go here to study have been very productive though.  It is my go-to last-minute cram session spot if I'm with a study buddy.  Just make sure you get off on the right floor though if you're with a group! 3--making a strong appearance at number three on the list is Rachel's Cafe,

a quirky coffee shop/cafe on third street with really great study vibes.  I have not studied here much, but the time I did, it was quite delightful.  It is a very great place to study in the afternoon with minimal noise.  I recommend checking their event schedule if you want to study there at night though.  You may not want to show up to study on a night when a band is performing.

2--In almost a dead-heat with #1 is the Education School Library.

Perfect for the SE neighborhood, this place is one of my all-time favorite places to go for a nice quiet study.  Pick your seat wisely if you do not want to deal with any noise, because there are group work tables in the library.  There are plenty of computers too!  Be prepared for some patience if you get there between normal class hours, though, as the computers fill up.  Most people are just printing things quickly.  Comfy chairs and personal study stations--this place is top notch for studying!

1--Finally in first place is MY ROOM,

music playing softly or turned off if I need it, an organized desk with everything I already need, and a kitchen down the hall if I need a snack or some water.  This place is perfect for me.  I try not to study on my bed (ya know, separate stress and sleep as much as possible).  I can lock my door or have it wide open and I can study to my brain's content!  This is my go-to study spot for everyday studying. I love it.

SO those are my favorite places to study around campus, and here is another list from about.com if you would like :) That's all I have for this post.  Thanks for reading.

Until next post,

Claire
