A Senior Looks Back: Football Games & Tailgates

Since this is the start of my senior year, I have a strong feeling that most of my future posts will be very reminiscent and full of nostalgia. I really want to look back and share my favorite memories and things about attending IU and living in Bloomington. Since football season started last Thursday, I will share my favorite tailgating and IU football game experiences!

My parents love to tailgate! They try to come to as many games as possible throughout the season and they always bring several friends and family members.  Some college students would probably dread hanging out with their parents at tailgates, but I really like it. It gives me and my friends a place to hang out before the game and my parents make sure to have plenty of food and drinks  for everyone. My favorite tailgates and games have always been the IU vs Purdue games on Thanksgiving weekend.  The atmosphere is unmatchable! My family is friends with a Purdue family so it has always been fun to see them and joke about which team will win the Oaken Bucket that year!

Another one of my favorite tailgates was last fall. My dad's best friend, who attended IU in the 80s, got to come to a game. He lives in New York City now, so it was really fun for him to come back and see how the campus had changed.

Some other IU students may disagree, but I really enjoy going to the football games. I love the moment when the team runs in! One of my favorite football game memories was my first game as a student.  All the people I went with were friends I had just met, and we had a ton of fun getting to sit in the student section and cheer on the team with my fellow Hoosiers! I forget who IU played, but we won the game! It was a great start to my college experience.

The first game of this season will always be a special game for several reasons! It was the first of my lasts (sort of). My last first football game of the season! Also I think this year is going to be a great season. Coach Wilson has worked really hard to make the IU football team better and better and this year it will finally really show! I am so excited that I get to be a part of this football season as a Senior. Your time at IU will fly by so make sure you take advantage of every opportunity!
