As hard as it is to believe, October is almost over and with that brings a whole new season--Recruitment! The deadline to register for recruitment is approaching. I am a member of a Panhellenic sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. Last year at about this time, I was nervously awaiting an email from my Rho Gamma, eager to begin the process.
If you are the least big interested in rushing, I highly recommend registering! Yes it is a $60 fee, but you might change your mind later and you don't want to not be able to because you missed the deadline.
I always knew that I wanted to rush. I was on the cross-country team in high school, which consisted of about 200 girls. I spent my Friday nights piling up in my car, and scarfing down pasta and bread at our carbofests. My Saturday mornings I braved the cold with my teammates, cheering on the side and warming up together. I wanted to have that team experience and group bonding here at IU.
I found that in my sorority. I get to live in a beautiful house, on-campus, and spend my time with my closest friends. I haven't had a dull moment yet. Whether we're snapchatting each other at study tables or serving pancakes at our philanthropy, we always have fun together. And as cheesy as it sounds, we are really here for each other no matter what. What I was looking for was a support system--and I have that at AGD. My sisters always make me smile. Whether it's leaving post-it notes on my desk, or going all out for a birthday, everyone really cares about each other. I think that everyone can find this type of environment in any one of the sororites here at IU. This is the one time in your life where you can have this kind of experience. I am SO happy I made the choice to go through recruitment.
Now that I am in a house, I get to see things from a whole new perspective. I understand that Greek life isn't for everyone, but I highly encourage anyone who is considering it to register!
