When you move in, you will most likely receive a snazzy circle-shaped booklet with all sorts of information about events happening to welcome you to (or back) to campus.  There is a lot of stuff in that booklet.  On top of finding classes, getting books, and settling in, you probably won’t have time to get to everything.  So we’re making it easy—here’s our list of the one event each day you should make time to attend.

Thursday—Culturefest, IU Auditorium : This event is a great way to meet new people and get some great free food.  Culturefest is extremely popular, so plan on getting there early to get a seat. Once there, a speaker will be inside.  Last year, I wasn’t too excited to sit through a lecture, but IU had a comedian who spoke about diversity, and it was actually really good.  When you exit the auditorium, you’ll be given four vouchers for food.  There will be lots and lots of small booths run by restaurants or organizations on campus.  You trade one voucher for one food item.  Last year, my personal favorite was the tiramisu at one of the booths.  There will also be performances from different groups from campus.  Afterwards, if you have time, swing by the Art Museum (one building away from the Auditorium) for a cool after-party.  Cool music, coffee, and free dessert will be available.

Friday—Traditions and Spirit of IU, Assembly Hall : Traditions and Sprit of IU is a good opportunity to learn all about the cheers and athletic side of IU.  You will meet in your residence center (look around for fliers with the time) to learn your center’s cheer.  Then, as a group, you will walk to Assembly Hall on the North side of campus.  You should plan to get there early (we heard a rumor that a t-shirt gun will be up and running early), and prepare to yell loudly to support your center.

Saturday—Do activities in your centerSaturday is a great time to get acclimated and learn more about the people who live near you.  Lots of different kinds of things will be going on, from free food, tours, and other activities.  This is a good time to meet people on your floor and take care of buying books and finding your classes.

Sunday—FaithFest, Dunn Meadow : Learn more about faiths and various religious groups around campus.  All the groups will have an area set up, and, like many other events, will be giving away free food and other goodies.  This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about diversity around campus.
