Keep Calm: It's Finals Week!

There’s one word pretty much every college student dreads: Finals! Finals week can be really stressful, but there are things you can do to help yourself out and keep stress as low as possible

Don’t cram.

Procrastinating can be really tempting when all you want to do is relax and take a break. But cramming and waiting until the last minute to study is not a good idea. It can certainly add to your stress and chances are you are not going to remember much of what you study if you are working at it too fast. The better idea is to:

Pace your studying.

Break up what you need to study into sections and work on a little bit each night or when you have some free time. And don’t just look at it once, go back and study it some more when you get a chance. The more you look over it, the likelier it is you will remember it come test day.

Don’t forget about final projects.

Add these dates to your calendar as soon as you get your syllabi at the beginning of the semester, so you’re not surprised with it at the end of the semester. Start working on the projects as soon as you can so you don’t have to rush at the end.

Ask your professors for help.
This is really something you should do all semester if you need assistance with anything in the class, so waiting until the last minute to ask about something you didn’t understand from the beginning of the semester is not a good idea. But if you really do need help at the last minute with understanding something, don’t be afraid to ask your professor about it. They have office hours for a reason: to help students. Take advantage of that! Professors want their students to succeed.

Have some fun.

Yes, working hard to get everything done on time is important, but don’t forget to set aside a bit of time to have fun. Go out and do something with your friends, watch some TV, read a book for fun, whatever it is that you like to do to relax and unwind. If you don’t you will find yourself under more stress than you want to be in, and that can hurt your studying and your work as well. So don’t forget to take care of yourself!

There are several other tips that others can share with you to survive finals week, but these are the ones I try to follow, and I think they can be really helpful to anyone who follows them!
