5 Notes from a coffee addict (Finals Week 2013)

In the past week, I have consumed more coffee, read more notes, done more finite problems, and crammed more knowledge into my brain than I ever thought would be humanly possible. So now I'm here to give you a few tips and best practices for finals week.

1. You are no longer in high school, so don't study like you are

In high school, there were some finals where I could read over the sheet of notes I'd taken one time and get 100% on the final. That is absolutely not the case in college. Not only will that probably earn you less then an F on the final, but you won't really learn anything. Take the time to go deeper than just skimming your notes. Rewrite them. Highlight them. Discuss them with a friend. Whatever it is, make sure you're taking your studying to a deeper level so that when it comes to test day you're confident in the information you've learned.

2. Embrace the Library

If you're like me, you'll probably spend 95% of your finals week there and that's okay! Go with friends. Plug into some good music. Take a study break and get a panini at the cafe to fuel your practice problems and note taking.

3. Go to the Gym

After sitting in the library for all that time, there will be nothing better for you than to get a good workout in to release some of that stress and give you some good endorphins. Plus you'll leave feeling more energized and ready to study more.

4. Visit your professors office hours

Not only does it show that you're dedicated to getting a good grade, but it's the best way to get all the answers to your questions. Plus, you'll walk into the exam feeling better prepared because then you've truly done all you can to prepare with getting help combined with your study efforts.

5. Reward Yourself

You've been working really hard. Know when it's time to take a break and get some sleep. Unwind at the end of the day by watching some Netflix. Be like me and use your study break to blog. Call your mom because she'll give you some really good words of encouragement.

Give yourself a pat on the back, you've got this.

Until next time,

Nikki
