"Raise Hell, Not Tuition"
IU Students Go On Strike April 11-12 About Rising Tuition Costs
- Students sharing their voices for all of campus to hear and listen on April 11, 2013 has a posed many different reactions from the public already on the first day of strike. The students are raising awareness about their frustration, among other sentiments, concerning tuition and other expenses delegated by Indiana University Office of Admissions. This post is aimed to show the public take on campus and the experience one could have from witnessing a strike at IU. Scroll down for stories, pictures, videos, and more.
- This is the official IU strike Facebook page where students and faculty with similar feelings confess their opinions about student matters and issues that leave them feeling trapped and enraged. Here, the students also plan group meetings and schedule campus-wide strikes.
- The IDS is already on the story covering the outburst of students from Ballantine to Woodburn Hall on April 11. The strike will go to another part of campus on the 12th to spread the word to different audiences aimlessly evenly.
- This is a video I took on the 11th showing my perspective of the strike and figuring out what the chant words were along with the persistent percussion.
- As you can see, there are many students who take the strike more lightly.
- Head-strong advocates of the strike tend to continue spreading awareness on social media.
- I actually laughed out loud for this message, but some students honestly think the efforts of the strike do not lead to serious change. The strikes tend to be more about the students wanting to be heard and making a decently large scene. I tend to think the students want to be noticed and stand out and these strikes unfortunately will not change the university's having to raise fees, but that is just me.
- Some, and I could be tempted to say most, students do not understand the meaning of the strike or were uninformed of the purpose and time in which the strike is taking place. My English teacher first informed me to educate my awareness for extra credit depending on if we attended or not.
- it's hilarious how an IU Red Carpet Day is on the same day as day 1 of IU on Strike #welcometocollegeclassof2017
- This was funny to me. Some prospective students were able to get a first-hand look at the commotion during tours.
- To the strikers, the students voicing their opinions are "showing solidarity." I find that a true statement. Their efforts are at least non-violent and noble.
- This is what the strike should be about: awareness and informing the unknown.
- While I believe they lost all credibility due to their actions (littering, interfering with operations, addressing the wrong audience, and assaulting IU staff) leading up to today's demonstrations, I've changed my view on the IU on Strike protesters. I've just been made aware that there will be a dance party and free dinner tonight hosted by them tonight. You win.
- You can't sway them all! You win some, and you lose some.
