The Limestone Comedy Festival (LCF) is a three-day, multi-venue festival, created by Jared Thompson, owner of The Comedy Attic, and Matt Alano-Martin, a local comedian. Headlining this year at LCF are Patton Oswalt, Sasheer Zamata, and Jimmy Pardo, among many other performers.
“We know this will be fun for the community,” Alano-Martin said in an interview with Indiana Daily Student. “There isn’t a lot that goes on during the summer so this will be refreshing.”
Patton Oswalt, stand-up comedian known for his roles such as Spence Olchin in the sitcom “The King of Queens” and for voicing Remy in the film “Ratatouille,” was recently on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” mentioning The Comedy Attic as being a great club, and was booked for LCF shortly thereafter.
Headlining alongside Oswalt is Indiana’s very own Sasheer Zamata who recently made her debut on “SNL.” Zamata is the first black female cast member added to “SNL” in six years.
“She’s very much like Tina [Fey],” said University of Virginia Professor Richard Warner, who taught both Zamata and Fey, in an interview with NY Daily News. “She’s a social critic, and she’s a feminist. She says, ‘This is what we think, but we don’t have the gumption to say it.’ ”
Jimmy Pardo will also be making his debut at LCF after his numerous performances at The Comedy Attic. Pardo is known for his podcast “Never Not Funny,” and his many appearances on “Conan.”
Alongside booking celebrity headliners for LCF, The Comedy Attic also brings in comedians to perform Thursday through Saturday every week and open-mic nights on Wednesdays. The Comedy Attic is not only buzzing in Bloomington, but it has also received national attention.
“Without any professional background in comedy, Dayna and Jared Thompson surprised the naysayers when they spawned Bloomington, Indiana’s first and only comedy club in 2008.” said Travel and Leisure Magazine. “They were supported by the community and have since brought in household names…”
In an interview with USA Today, Amy Schumer, stand-up comedian and actress named The Comedy Attic one of the top 10 great places where comedy is king. “It’s the Midwest, but they’re nobody’s fool. The people are smart, and I love the culture there, and the restaurants and the bars. It’s kind of a happening city,” said Schumer.
