5 Things to Do While "Stuck" in Bloomington This Summer

Ever since freshman year, I've been told how amazing Bloomington summers are, and now I'm finally experiencing one firsthand. As we all know, moving away from home and living on our own can be scary, but it can also be a great experience. This is my list of 5 things that will make a summer in Bloomington worth your while and one for the books.

1. Catch up on SLEEP

You would think this is obvious, but sometimes people underestimate finals and how crazy they can make us. After a week of depending on coffee and sleeping 4 hours a night, its extremely important to just relax for awhile! This is the perfect time to just veg out for a bit and regain sanity from such a stressful end of the semester.

2. Take a Day Trip to Brown County/Nashville, IN

One great thing about Bloomington is that its so close to one of the most beautiful state parks in Indiana. They have all sorts of hiking and biking trails, along with many different overnight options including camping and log cabins. Its literally the perfect place to go and get away for awhile to see some nature! Also, the town its located in, Nashville, is an adorable little town full of little shops and boutiques, aka perfect for a little shopping or homemade ice cream. Check it out!

3. Go to a Baseball Game!

Who doesn't love a good old baseball game in the middle of a warm day. The IU baseball games are free, as well as an easy, fun thing to do during your spring/summer days.  Also, they're pretty awesome.

4. Take a Class

So this one isn't quite as exciting, but its a smart thing to do. Taking a class or two in the summer is a great idea for those of us worrying about graduating on time and/or trying to maintain the highest GPA possible. Summer classes are generally more condensed because of the time constraint, and are notoriously easier. So, this is the perfect time to get that brutal accounting class or that grueling 5 credit class out of the way the most efficient way possible. With 4, 6, and 8 week classes, no matter which you take, you'll still have plenty of free time to enjoy the summer.

5. Take Advantage of the Bloomington NIGHTLIFE!

Let's admit it, we've all been waiting all winter to finally take advantage of that KOK patio. Now's the perfect time. Even if you aren't quite 21, there are plenty of restaurants and live music around to take advantage of the night life. Bloomington is unique, and summer is the perfect time to check it out.
