What I'm Looking Forward to Most as a Senior

It took a long time for me even to be able to say those words. Senior year. In high school, calling yourself a senior was a privilege. Full of excitement for what many call the “best four years of your life” I could not wait to get out of home and start the next chapter in my life. This time, I am a little more reluctant. This next step is the biggest one yet. Without the structure of school, my life is going to be completely different. But having chosen Indiana, I am confident that I will be ready when the time comes to take that next step. Right now, I am going to focus on making my last year the best one yet. Here are the things I’m most excited for:

1. Spending time with my sorority sisters and friends

Most of all, I can’t wait to be with the people I love. It scares me to think I only have one more year of living in the Nuthouse with all of my best friends. But I know no matter where life takes me, they will always have a special place in my heart. One of the main reasons I wanted to live in my sorority during my senior year was to get to know the younger girls. Even though I might feel waaay too old to be at a frat party, you can bet I’ll be there, just so I can spend as much time as I can with my sisters.

2. Taking interesting classes

Now is the time where I can take the classes I want to, the ones that I will actually use post-graduation. Forget those A&H Gen Ed credits. I can’t wait to take Abnormal Psychology, and Public Relations Writing. Second semester I might even sign up for a rock climbing course.

3. Exploring Bloomington

Although I consider myself to be well-versed on the Bloomington culture, I know there is always more to explore. Volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club helped me discover all of the hidden parts of downtown Btown, and I can’t wait to explore some more.

4. Supporting the Hoosiers!

At first I was hesitant about whether I should buy the basketball/football combo package. But then I thought about all of the great times I’ve had with friends cheering on our teams and I knew I had to buy it for my last year. I also hope to attend IU baseball games, and possibly a track or swim meet.

5. Sharing experiences with underclassmen

This sounds cheesy, but I truly believe you can learn so much from upperclassmen. Way back when I was applying to IU, my upperclassman friend told me what dorm I should live in and even showed me around campus during welcome week. I hope to do the same for someone, showing them all IU has to offer.

6. Being 21!

Last on my list, but certainly not least. Coming from Illinois, the cut-off age for schools are different. I am a newbie when it comes to Bloomington bars, having turned 21 on June 6. Bar crawls are definitely on my bucket list for my last year in Btown. I may even attempt open to close at Roys. You will be sure to find me standing in the ridiculiously long lines at Kilroys for a t-shirt on a Thursday, or splitting a Hairy Bear with friends.

To all my fellow seniors, I hope you can join me in making this the best year yet! To all you freshmen, you may hear this a lot, but we are all jealous of you.

In the wise words of A.A. Milne, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
