Many usually find it hard to cope up with the amount of material to cover for tests during finals and midterms. This is due to not managing time properly. Even if one starts preparing only the weekend before tests, it would be a relatively easy week, provided that time is managed efficiently. One could do this by preparing for all subjects by allocating an hour or so for each subject. Preparing this way will not only help reduce ones workload during exams week, but will also help covering material in an efficient manner.
Doing this is more often than not, easier said than done, so here are a few steps to focus on the task at hand rather than getting side tracked.
- First of try to reduce, not completely, the usage of phones, social media, etc.... during this period.Things such as these are usually the primary distractions.
- Next, make sure to get plenty of sleep during the exams week and the week before, so that you are fresh and ready to work and excel.Usually people sacrifice sleep to stay up and study. One should try to avoid doing this, as one's brain does not function to full capacity with lack of sleep, hence the material you are trying to grasp may seem harder than it actually is. In the first place if one stays up late to study, it is more often than not due to procrastination, which only adds to the pressure.
- Next make sure to have all your meals and eat like you would on any other day. It is important to not skip meals, as it replenishes one's mind to function better and further enhances ones efficiency. Remember enough sleep alone does not replenish one's mind, one has to also feed it by eating properly. This is mainly to remind people to not skip meals, in order to save time for studying.
- Finally, make sure you are not learning any new material before exams week, as this would only prolong one's studying, as learning is different from studying. Make sure to go to office hours or ask a friend to explain to you any material you don't understand well before exams week.
Following this, I'm sure you will be able to achieve the grades you are aiming for.
