A trying time for the Greek community: a tribute to Theta Phi Alpha sorority

Hello all,

Though it has been a couple of weeks since this tragedy, I thought it best to give you all a point of view from a member of the Greek community.

For those who are uninformed, Amanda Ludwig, a freshman and brand new sister of the Theta Phi Alpha sorority here at IU, was killed in a tragic car accident along with her mother on March 7th. I had the pleasure of speaking with Amanda at one point during sorority recruitment, and I was saddened to hear that a woman in the Greek community who I'd had the chance to speak to was no longer here with us.

But, not only did I feel saddened, but the entire Greek community, as house after house gathered by Showalter Fountain for a candlelight vigil late on Wednesday March 11th in support of Theta Phi Alpha and their fallen sister. To say this ceremony was moving would be the world's biggest understatement, and easily I was in tears from the words of her sisters and Amanda's cousin.

I stood outside of my sorority house in gloom and watched a group of people walk by the house in silence, and what I didn't realize was that almost every member of every house were walking in groups. The Greek community walked together from the extension to Showalter Fountain. The sight of all of us at the vigil was breathtaking, and really made me think that there isn't just me in this world, but everyone else.

Though some of you may not be in a Greek organization, for whatever reason you choose, I think it's safe to say that we are a separate community on campus, but we are all human beings and are there for each other.

I hope you all have a great day. :)

Best,

Miller
