Some people think that living in a dorm may be similar to living in a jail cell, but with some cute decorations and smart use of space your room can easily be transformed into a comfortable living space for your freshman year. Here are some ideas to make the most of the space you have.
StorageThe moment you first see your room your first thought will be "How will I fit even half my stuff in here!". Moving in can be overwhelming because most people don't know what to expect espeecially since the dorms at IU are all very different depending on when they were built. Some rooms have a built in closet, while others have furniture that is easy to move around. Here are some prime spaces to utlize on move in day:
Under the bed - Having some drawers under your bed allow you to have space for extra blankets, towels, shoes, or cold weather clothes. Mainly items that take up a large amount of space anywhere else. Under the bed is also a great place to store your duffel bags or suitcases out of the way but still accessible when you need them.
The back of your door - Get an over the door shoe holder and store shoes or hair accessories right on your door and out of your way.
If you feel comfortable, bunk your beds! It really opens up your room and allows you to even have a small futon/couch to relax on in between classes.
There are so many cool ideas on the internet to help you transform your space into a home away from home. Pinterest is a great place to start! Here are some of my favorites:
