Are you on the fence about applying to IU? Are you confused as to when the best time is to apply? Take my advice: fill out the application and submit it before the early action deadline, the first of November! Why, you might ask? Well, there are a number of perks that come with applying for early action. If you end up choosing to come to IU (which I hope you do!), you’ll be happy that you submitted everything as soon as possible. Let me tell you some of the reasons why!
- Early admission decision
Those who apply to IU before the November 1st deadline get to know their admission status way earlier than those who don’t. The Office of Admissions starts sending out letters as early as October. Plus, early action students get first dibs on their spot in the incoming class. Anyone who applies after the regular decision date of February 1st is only accepted on a space-available basis. If you want to ensure that you’ll be coming to B-Town in the fall, apply as soon as possible!
- Maximize your opportunity for scholarships
Another great perk about submitting your materials before November 1st is that you have a better chance at earning scholarships. In addition, some scholarship opportunities, like the Selective Scholarship Application (SSA), are only offered to early action students. After your application to IU is submitted, you might be considered for various scholarships or grants. Some of these require a separate application, and if you’re invited to fill them out, they will show up on your SSA account. There could be two or three different scholarship programs reaching out to you, so make sure you fill out every form! Who doesn’t want free money?
- Being ahead of the game
As I said before, the sooner you apply, the faster you’ll hear back! If you submit early action, you’ll have time to send in more recent SAT/ACT scores. You’ll also be able to focus on getting letters of recommendation and writing essays for scholarship applications. You can even start looking at courses you need or want to take. The bottom line is that if you finish the application before November 1st, you will be able to start working on other things, like FAFSA or external scholarship applications, sooner.
Applying to college requires many different materials, such as a high school transcript, standardized test scores, an essay, and other personal records. Don’t procrastinate; start compiling these things now and get your application submitted! November 1st will arrive sooner than you think, so if you haven’t started applying already, you should! Your future self will thank you.
