Going to a school with 42,000+ students sounds like it would be overwhelming. It sounds like you'd be just a tiny fish in a giant ocean and just one more face in the sea of humanity.
Not the case.
College is a time for discovering yourself and one of the benefits of going to a huge school like Indiana University is you'll have no problem meeting like-minded peole! Finding your niche in a club, department, or group of friends is what makes this culture so special. On the flipside, what also makes the giant population of IU attractive is that you don't have to know only like-minded people! Yes, find your comfort zone with genuine friends and create that microcosm of a world, but also try to get out of it every once in a while. There are so many opportunities in Bloomington to experience something different that while it might make you feel uncomfortble, it's necessary in the process of growing up.
Choosing a giant school like IU gives students the opportunity to not just find their spot, but learn about others. Creating my own small community within the giant Hoosier nation while frequently exploring others has made all the difference.
