One of the things I was most worried about when coming to college was how I was going to get involved. I danced growing up and was in love with show choir in high school, but I wasn't sure if I had what it takes to keep dancing in college. Sometimes going to such a large school backfires on you... the groups are just too competitive to even have a chance.
My sophomore year, I was at the student involvement fair helping with the We Are IU booth as a blogger. I decided to walk around just to see what was out there and I stumbled upon the Hoosierettes. A pom style dance team that had girls with all different kinds of dance backgrounds. I decided to try out and I made the team! I'm now dancing my second year on the team and I couldn't be happier.
Hoosierettes has been growing more and more every year since it started just a few short years ago. We have 25 extremely talented girls who love to dance and hang out together. We have danced at women's basketball and volleyball games, various community events and even a field hockey game this year! We have the tradition of performing at one Pacer's game every year as well. I would have never thought I would have the opportunity to dance again in college, but I am so thankful that I do. I wouldn't trade this team for the world. Come out and see us dance sometime! You can see what we're up to on twitter (@IUHoosierettes), facebook (Indiana Hoosierettes) and now instagram (@iuhoosierettes)!
I have also been able to join another dance group this year called Hoosier Tap Company, but that's another group for another blog. :) Get out there and see what organization IU has to offer you! You never know where you might find your passion.
