Happy 2014, Hoosiers! If you're anything like me, you're loving Christmas Break but you're also pumped to get back to the beautiful (albeit frozen and snowy) Bloomington. Similarly, you've probably read all the New Year's Resolutions on Twitter and Facebook, scrolling through and thinking, "really? No Netflix for a year? That's impossible." Seeing all these promises made me ponder a few resolutions of my own. I came up with a list of 5 simple resolutions that any college (or even high school) student could follow.
1. Study, Study, Study!I know what you're thinking. Study more than I have to? No, thank you! But think about it- this is a new semester. You have a clean slate, a new chance to prove yourself. You may have done this after seeing last semester's grades...
But after a little extra studying, you'll be toasting me and my sage words of advice :)
2. Eat HealthierThe Freshman 15 is a very real and very scary thing. However, it's also pretty avoidable. Swapping out dessert for veggies or fruit is one simple change that may not be all that appealing, but will pay off in a few months when you're sitting on the beach in Florida feeling like a healthy, lean machine. This doesn't have to be you.
3. Work OutRule number three goes hand in hand with healthy eating. Work out! Not only will working out help ward off the Freshman 15, it will also help your confidence, because who doesn't feel awesome after hitting the gym? Fortunately for you, IU offers a ton of ways for you to get active and involved. I recommend checking out these links to group exercise sessions. http://www.iurecsports.org/grp_exercise
4. Find Your Passion, Make It HappenMake 2014 your year to really get involved with something you love. College is your time to realize what you want to do in life. Take advantage of all the different clubs and activities IU offers. Check 'em out here. http://www.iub.edu/student/activities/clubs.shtml
5. Stress LessSchool is overwhelming, I get it. But there comes a time when you NEED to realize that stressing is NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANYTHING. Stressing out to the point of breakdown is not healthy, and it's not going to score you that A. Granted, wanting to get an A is fine, but beating yourself up over it isn't. Take that motivation and use it to get you one step closer to your goal. Instead of sitting there pulling your hair out, go do something about it. You'll be feeling like a champ when it's all said and done.
So go get to it! Make 2014 your best year yet!
