We have reached that time of year where people are deciding on whether or not to come to IU (I think IU is a good choice). But after you decide that you want to go to IU (because its the best choice) you have to decide where to live. I have done a blog about where to live already so I thought about talking about the KLLC. There are lots of rumors about KLLC and McNutt (the lovely home of the KLLC), I hope to hit them all. Alright Here we go!
1. YOU HAVE TO BE A KELLEY STUDENT TO LIVE IN THE KLLC. FALSEYou don't have to be a Kelley student to live in the KLLC, you don't even have to be a pre-business student. During my time at the KLLC we had Apparel Merchandising, Sports Management, Music, Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management(me), students and much more non-Kelley majors.
2. ALL KLLC STUDENTS PARTY A LOT. FALSEYes, some students party, it's College! But not every student goes to parties and you don't have to feel obligated. During my time at the KLLC, I was on a party floor which means most of my floor went out to parties together. But although it annoyed me at times I never felt obligated to go to parties, And if I ever needed to study at night I didn't have much of a problem. Plus I tend to get the lounge to myself on the weekends to watch movies.
3. YOU HAVE TO PAY AN EXTRA FEE TO BE IN THE KLLC. TRUEYou have to pay like a $100 fee to live in the KLLC but it is worth it, you get all these guest speakers from places like Google, the Big 4 (audit firms) and way more that I can't seem to remember right now. the KLLC office also plans some cool trips to Atlanta and Chicago along with other on campus activities
4. A BUSINESS/PRE-BUSINESS STUDENT CAN REALLY BENEFIT FROM LIVING IN THE KLLC. TRUEAnyone can benefit from living in the KLLC, but mostly the people who intend to be a part of the Kelley program in any way. I say this because you guys are all taking the same classes and it's so easy to start study groups or knock on every door until you find someone to help you with and A100 problem (You will know what A100 is when you get here).
5. ONE GENDER PER FLOOR. FALSEYes, that means your neighbors can be of a different sex. I hope this doesn't make you feel awkward, or even your parents. All of McNutt has a floors where Men and Women share. They do this because studies have proven this makes a cleaner floor (Sadly my floor was the exception). But honestly, all the bathrooms are single bathrooms and you can always get dressed in the bathroom after your shower or invest in a good fitting bathrobe. If you have any problems with someone of the opposite gender you can always talk to your RA or any other RA if you don't feel comfortable approaching yours.
6. YOU HAVE TO TAKE TWO REQUIRED CLASSES TRUEYes, there are two required classes, one per semester. The first semester is a pretty nice discussion based small class that everyone takes(they are taught by grad students). The second semester is where the fun comes, they are fun business type classes. During my time there were classes about the business of reality TV (we focused on Honey Boo Boo) and my friend took one that focused on Harry Potter, another took one on pirates. These classes are really fun and even taught by actual Kelley Professors, they are pretty small classes and a great way to know a professor in a different way.
I Hope that this Rumor Patrol really helped. If you think of any more questions feel free to comment and I will make another post about them. I must add that everyone experiences things differently -- the reason why I said during my time is because I was in the KLLC for the 2012-2013 school year they may not seem like a long time ago but it kinda is in actuality a lot of things can change, but I am able to communicate with people from the Center and approach them about your questions.
