In one of my classes, we had to write a procedure for incoming freshmen about how to form a meaningful relationship when they get to IU. This post will explain how to make a good first impression with your professor on the first day of class:
- Check ratemyprofessors.com. Make sure your professor has at least a 3 on overall quality before you sign up for his/her class.
- Make sure you get to class on time. It would be best to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early.
- Smile as you enter, and introduce yourself to the professor. Note: Make this introduction quick, or you might look like a suck-up.
- Sit towards the front, but not in the front row.
- Pay attention to the lecture and make eye contact.
- Raise your hand and answer questions when they are posed to the class. Note: Make sure your answers are intelligent and relevant to the question.
- Pack up your bags only after the professor has dismissed class.
-
Wave goodbye to your professor on the way out.
